Why We Wear Masks

Wearing a mask at a protest is the easiest way for people to protect themselves from Scientology's Fair Game attacks. Whenever anyone pickets outside Scientology's buildings, members of Scientology as well as hired private investigators take pictures of every single protester they can, in the hope that one of them will reveal their face. Once they have a picture of someone's face, they are ruthlessly effective at tracking down information on that person, which can lead to very serious trouble.
Many Anonymous are afraid of being persecuted for their right to express themselves freely. That is why we support and encourage protesters to wear masks and we hope that you will understand. Our hope is that one day, when Scientology is no longer allowed to carry out its policies of intimidation, that we will all be able to unmask ourselves freely in public and reveal who we really are. But until that day, to protect ourselves and our families, we unfortunately will have to keep the masks on.

For those Anons who will be joining us for the march in Washington, please do bring your masks and wear them while participating. It's perfectly legal in Washington, DC to wear a mask as a part of a free speech demonstration, so bring your mask and wear it with pride!
